Goldberg presents these discussions, which might otherwise be difficult or dense, with great vividness and humor, and with frequent alternations of personal narrative. Thus in the middle of his discussion of “field-dependent” behavior, the incontinent distractibility so characteristic of those with severe frontal lobe damage, Goldberg speaks of dogs, and their relatively “afrontal” behavior, where “out of sight” is “out of mind.” He contrasts this with the behavior of apes, and tells us how, on a trip to Thailand, he once “befriended and was befriended by” a young male gibbon, the pet of a restaurant owner in Phuket:
<試譯>
<譯評>
1. “Goldberg presents these discussions, which might otherwise be difficult or dense, with great vividness and humor, and with frequent alternations of personal narrative.”
此外,原文中說的是“those with severe frontal lobe damage”。

<原譯> p.18
<原文> p.xi
This, of course, was impossible, and Goldberg (whom I knew by this time) was very sad that he could not do so. I felt a great sympathy for him because I had had an almost identical experience with an orangutan myself and had more than half-wished we could at least send postcards to each other.
<試譯>
<譯評>
1. 原譯中把“…(whom I knew by this time)…”

Introduction [1]
The knowledge that brain mapping is delivering is not only enlightening, it is of immerse practical and social importance because it paves the way for us to recreate ourselves mentally in a way that has previously been described only in science fiction. Rather as knowledge of the human genome will soon allow us to manipulate the fundamental physical processes that give rise to our bodies, so brain mapping is providing the navigational tool required to control brain activity in a precise and radical way.
<試譯>
<譯評>
1. 譯者將第一句話中的 “…enlightening, …of immerse practical and social importance…”
4. “so brain mapping is providing the navigational tool…”
==================================================
<原譯> p.15
Introduction [3]
The result of this reticence is that while we all debate and fret about the ethical and practical implications of genetic engineering, brain mapping tends to be regarded as the geeks’ corner of psychology – interesting, no doubt, for those who like that sort of thing, but of no practical importance. When news leaks out it tends to be in isolated blips: one tiny piece of brain tissue is found to be the source of fear; the connection between the two hemispheres appears to be denser in women than in men; damage is found in the frontal lobes of a disproportionate number of murderers on Death Row. Each of these stories generates a brief flurry of speculation, but their full significance is rarely elucidated.
<試譯>
<譯評>
2. 譯者似乎誤解原文含意,將最後的 “… but their full significance is rarely elucidated.”
3. 雖然 “The result of this reticence is…”

The Brain that Changes Itself_
【The Brain That Changes Itself】 by Norman Doidge, M.D.
<原譯> p.39
The actual receptor surface in the hand becomes merely a relay for information, a data port. The receptor surface loses its identity in the process.
<試譯>
<譯評>
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<原譯> p.41
<原文> p.18
This can happen because all our sense receptors translate different kinds of energy from the external world, no matter what the source, into electrical patterns that are sent down our nerves. These electrical patterns are the universal language “spoken” inside the brain – there are no visual images, sounds, smells, or feelings moving inside our neurons.
<試譯>
<譯評>
